PEG South East Asia – A successful evolution 

PEG S.E.A. was established in January 2008 to provide civil and mechanical engineering and drafting services for the Cement-, Infrastructure- and Environment industries worldwide. Through Filipino personnel having gained their experience in both local and international markets and under German management PEG S.E.A. has since delivered a comprehensive range of design, engineering and drafting services for a number of projects.  

PEG S.E.A.’s first major orders were turn-key projects under the leadership of its parent company PEG S.A. of Switzerland carried out for LUFTHANSA TECHNIK; these involved the engineering, fabrication, installation and commissioning of maintenance docks for wide- and narrow-body aircrafts on Malta and in Bulgaria. Further orders in cooperation with PEG S.A. were engineering required for process ducts in the coal and pet coke grinding of a HOLCIM plant in Mexico, the extension and modernization of the clinker and raw meal transport of a HOLCIM plant in Costa Rica as well as the checking of civil drawings for a new, 3.500 TpD cement plant in Jordan owned by MCM . At the same time PEG S.E.A. acquired and executed a number of projects involving mechanical steel engineering around cold rolling mill installations of SMS-DEMAG in China, Japan and Russia. 

The nature of the Philippine economy prevented the full impact of the global financial crisis at which time PEG S.E.A. concentrated on its home market and substantially extended its service portfolio. Nowadays PEG S.E.A. provides full project services to the Cement- and other industries including engineering, supply of parts and equipment, local fabrication and project / construction management and execution. PEG S.E.A. employs experienced engineers in a multitude of disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and process) and applies the latest computer software and design tools whilst still working seamlessly with its parent company PEG S.A. and the network of PEG subsidiaries and affiliated companies worldwide. PEG S.E.A.’s team of experienced personnel guarantees quality design and engineering, quality supply of machinery and equipment and PEG S.E.A.’s team of equally experienced field personnel warrants the quality of fabricated parts and top quality execution of installations, construction and maintenance works on site. 

On this background PEG S.E.A. has successfully implemented projects in the Philippines involving its new and full range of service portfolio. Highlights amongst those were the replacement 25 meter kiln shell in two sections in CEMEX Solid Cement Corporation and the replacement of 14.25 meter kiln shell in three sections in LAFARGE Republic Cement Bulacan including girth gear replacement  Also in CEMEX Solid Cement Corporation PEG S.E.A. had already executed the replacement of the top 33 meters of the main smoke stack as well as its structural re-enforcement and is at the time of this writing still finalizing the modification of the calciner from a pot to a flesh type with two inlets. In LAFARGE Republic Cement Bulacan PEG S.E.A. has now been contracted for the mechanical maintenance of its horromill. For HOLCIM Philippines in its Bulacan and LaUnion plants PEG S.E.A. undertook the complete inspection and elaboration of as-build drawings involving state of the art scanning and imaging technologies. Again for LAFARGE Republic Cement, but in Teresa plant, PEG S.E.A. carried out the demolition of 12 old raw meal and homogenizing silos in confined space and has now been contracted to execute the demolition of an old crusher and building on a hillside location.

Having earlier in this article outlined their expertise it remains to be said that the ‘founding’ team remains in PEG S.E.A. today, almost all of the personnel re-enforcing us – once with us – stays with us and the majority of field personnel is continuously with PEG S.E.A. dating back to “Lufthansa”-days of 2008; thus maintaining PEG S.E.A.’s familiarity with and towards its clients. 

The global markets somewhat recuperating PEG S.E.A., under the leadership of project managers in its parent PEG S.A., today is again contracted with the checking of civil, mechanical and electrical drawings for Greenfield cement plants in Tunisia and Chad, has been contracted with concepts for wide-body Boeing docks and is now again contracted by PEG Aviation for general arrangement drawings of airplane maintenance docks. 

In the near future PEG S.E.A. is geared tackling projects on its home market involving a level of sophistication in design, engineering and execution; furthermore taking such expertise into neighboring South-East Asian markets and implement a competitive supply chain for spare parts and consumables. For the Cement industry the replacement of kiln shells, but also the implementation of alternative fuel (RDF) projects are target markets for PEG S.E.A., to name a few. In other industries – for example the fossil fuel, coal fired energy sector – PEG S.E.A. is certain to be able to contribute substantially and competitively to potential clients’ success whilst a number of other fields of heavy industry now offer a wide window of cooperation.
